NY Jets Coach Saleh Announces Joe Flacco As Starting QB

With the announcement of veteran QB Joe Flacco starting against the Baltimore Ravens this Sunday, September 11th, 2022, WAJ Sports felt it would be appropriate to share our recap of the Take Flight Fundraiser that happened last weekend August 28th. The coordinators of the fundraiser, TobiasEats and Alberto’s Angels, raised money for The Valerie Fund. I had the pleasure of joining the crew as they sold tickets to the annual preseason game from tailgating in the parking lot to cheering in the Wynbett Green Room. The main mission was to sell tickets to the preseason game with the proceeds going towards affordable health care for cancer patients. The NY Jets defeated the NY Giants 31-27 with home-field advantage. The interview will be coming soon along with a special spread highlighting the Green Gang’s participation in the charity event.

Now let’s dive a little into the NY Jets offense and what to look for before the NFL season kicks off. Zach Wilson was the starting QB at the beginning of the preseason before suffering a knee injury which gave Flacco an opportunity to show fans that he’s still got it against the NY Giants. In his 15-year career, the veteran quarterback has compiled a 98-78 record as a starter in the regular season while passing for 41,269 yards with 227 TDs and 144 INTs. Wilson is still recovering from arthroscopic surgery and most likely will not be able to start until Week 4 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In the backfield, the NY Jets have Breece Hall joining Michael Carter. Hall was the 36th draft pick and had 2 consecutive years with over 1400 rushing yards while playing for Iowa State. He is predicted to be a breakout player, so expect offensive coordinator Mike LaFluer to use him when building an offensive line around the run game. Regarding wide receivers, first-round draft pick Garrett Wilson will be paired with Elijah Moore, Corey Davis, and Braxton Berrios. Out of the 132 targets he saw during his college career, Wilson only dropped six balls, resulting in a 90% catch rate. Additionally, in 2021 alone he posted an impressive 70-1058-12 receiving line over the course of eleven games.
