Toronto, On - CaribbeanTales International Film Festival, (CTFF) founded by award winning filmmaker and Academy member Frances-Anne Solomon, will celebrate its 18th year, September 6th – 22nd in Toronto and online. CTFF in partnership with Hot Docs will hold a media launch Tuesday, August 8th at Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema, 506 Bloor St W, Toronto. doors open 7 PM event begins 7:30 PM. Join us as we unveil the 2023 CaribbeanTales International Film Festival lineup. This year we dive into urgent narratives and discussions as we strive for a better, sustainable future through our spotlight on climate change. Our Media launch will give you a sneak peek into the incredible stories and cinematic wonders that will grace the big screen beginning September 6th. CTFF will also screen the sensorial film, KITE ZO A (LEAVE THE BONES) by Kaveh Nabatian. In 1791 Haiti, Dutty Boukman presided over a Vodou ritual in Bois-Caïman that led to the creation of the first Black republic. Since then, rituals of transformation and artistic expression have been at the core of a thriving culture as the country faces oppression, poverty, and natural disasters. Q&A to follow. CaribbeanTales International Film Festival 2023 will shine a renewed spotlight on the impact of climate change on our cherished Small Island States and Canada. The Caribbean region is confronting imminent threats from rising temperatures, sea levels, and extreme weather events. CTFF has long been committed to showcasing films that serve as real-time records of the environmental hazards we face. We stand united with activists and affected communities. Our goal is to ensure that vital, visual stories reach the widest audiences and remain accessible and relevant always.

CaribbeanTales International Film Festival 2023 will continue its mission to present a multi-ethnic mix of inspiring films showcasing diverse shared stories and cultures from new and returning filmmakers. Attendees can join our hosts, special guests and filmmakers for live screenings, panel discussions and talkbacks with filmmakers.

To Celebrate the CarribeanTales Film Festival’s 18th year CTFF in partnership with Hot Docs is proud to co-present Patty vs. Party, a For Viola film featuring works by Jamaican Canadian director (and #CTFF alumnus!) @chrisstrikes and British-Grenadian-Trinidadian master Steve McQueen. On Saturday, August 12, Chris' Canadian Screen Award-winning short PATTY VS. PATTY will precede a first-ever Canadian theatrical presentation of LOVERS ROCK, from McQueen's award-winning SMALL AXE anthology.

This joyful double bill invites you to revisit the 1980s, where West Indian enclaves in Toronto and London showed irrepressible resilience and made enduring contributions to the wider culture—not least via their finger-licking flavours and waistline-stirring basslines.
