The holidays are upon us which means it's time to get out all of the festive decorations, start watching all of the holiday movies, and eating way too many sweets. It also means that we need to find things to do that will keep us busy during this time off from work and school. If you're looking for some fun things to do this holiday season that don't involve sitting on the couch in a food coma, then look no further! Here are some ideas to get you started.
1. Volunteer your time.
There are plenty of people and organizations who could use a helping hand this time of year. From serving food at a soup kitchen to playing Santa's helper at a children's hospital, there are many ways to spread holiday cheer by giving back to those in need. Not only will you be making someone else's holiday season brighter, but you'll also be filling yours with joy and purpose.
2. Start a new tradition.
If your family is anything like mine, then you have some old traditions that you love and others that could use a little sprucing up. This year, mix things up by starting a new tradition! Maybe it's something as simple as decorating gingerbread houses together or taking a holiday lights tour around town. Whatever it is, make it something that everyone can enjoy and that you'll all look forward to doing each year.
3. Get moving!
Just because it's cold outside doesn't mean you have to spend the entire season indoors! There are plenty of winter activities that will get you up and moving, from sledding and snowboarding to ice skating and hiking. Not only is exercise good for your physical health, but it can also help boost your mood and fight off the winter blues. So get out there and enjoy all that nature has to offer this time of year!
4. Cozy up with a good book (or two...or three).
One of my favorite things about the holidays is having some extra down time to catch up on my reading list. Whether you're curled up by the fireplace with a mug of hot cocoa or relaxing in your PJs with a cup of tea, there's nothing quite like getting lost in a good book (or three). So if you're looking for something to do this holiday season, why not cozy up with your favorite blanket and start working your way through that stack of books on your nightstand?
5. Connect with loved ones near and far.
The holidays are often a time when we reflect on our relationships with family and friendsāboth those who are near and those who are far away. Reach out to your loved ones this season and let them know how much they mean to you. You can write them a handwritten letter or give them a callāwhatever method you choose, just take a moment to connect and let them know they're in your thoughts.
The holidays are a special time of year when we get together with our loved ones, reflect on what we're grateful for, and make memories that will last a lifetime. While there are plenty of traditions that we all know and love, sometimes it's nice to mix things up and try something new! So if you're looking for some fun things to do this holiday season that go beyond the usual suspects like watching Christmas movies and eating cookies, then give these ideas a try. From volunteering your time to connecting with loved ones near and far, there are plenty of ways to make this holiday season one to rememberāfor all the right reasons!
